Thousands of Nurses Could Be Pushed Out of UK -- Union

The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) has claimed thousands of foreign-born nurses could be forced to leave the UK under changes starting next year requiring immigrants from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) to earn £35,000 or more to stay in the UK after six years, reports Sky News. Nearly 3,365 nurses currently working in the UK, recruited at a cost of over £20m, will potentially be affected, claimed the union.

Number of HIV-Infected OFWs Hit 4,000 Mark, Says Labor Union

The number of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-positive overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) is expected to top the 4,000-mark this year, the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) said. In a statement, TUCP president and former senator Ernesto Herrera said urgent action is needed to prevent the increase of HIV-infected OFWs, reports ABS CBN News.

Filipina NASA Pioneer Remembered

The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) extended their condolences to the family of physicist Angelita Castro-Kelly, who passed away recently due to a lingering condition Castro-Kelly was the first woman to become Mission Operations Manager at the NASA. Feds Arrest Fil-Am Engineer on Bribe, Kickback Charges

Federal agents arrested a Filipino American engineer, Rodolfo Quiambao, June 4 on suspicion of providing bribery and kickbacks to employees of a New York utility company, reports Inquirer.net. Quiambao, president and CEO of Rudell & Associates, Inc., an engineering and design firm , allegedly provided more than $6.9 million in bribes and kickbacks to supervisors of Consolidated Edison of New York (ConEd) in exchange for receiving contracts for his company.
