Remittances Breach $2B Mark in April

Cash sent home by overseas Filipino workers rose in line with expectations in April this year, which became the earliest month in history that saw remittances exceed $2 billion, documents from the central bank showed. Growth in remittances fell off March’s high but still stayed at a healthy pace, keeping up with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas’ (BSP) official forecast for 2015, reports Inquirer.net.

Popular Fil-Am Restaurateur Murdered in Kansas

The Wichita, Kansas community has been rocked by the murder of the Filipina owner of a popular restaurant. Tanya Tandoc, the owner of Tanya’s Soup Kitchen, was found dead last Thursday in the basement of her home. The suspect is Tandoc’s housemate, 47-year-old Curtis Mitchell.Police said Mitchell made a 911 call late last Thursday night in which he confessed to the dispatcher that he killed Tandoc in a "crime of passion," reports ABS-CBN News.

Another Filipino Radio Station Launches in UAE

Filipino workers in the United Arab Emirates will have more variety in the airwaves after another radio station for Filipinos was launched there last June 6, reports GMA News.
Wow 107 FM, a 24-hour entertainment channel, caters to Filipinos in need of commentary, music, and news delivered in Tagalog similar in style to radio stations in the Philippines. Before Wow 107 FM's launch, Tag 91.1 was the only Tagalog-language radio station in the UAE.
