Filipino Community Development Corporation Opens Bahay Kalinga, A “House of Care” Dedicated to Homelessness Prevention and Community Well-Being in San Francisco
/The Filipino Community Development Corporation (FCDC) will celebrate the House Warming and Grand Opening of Bahay Kalinga ("House of Care") Community Resource Center on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at 122 9th Street in San Francisco's SoMa Pilipinas Cultural District.
Rooted in the Filipino values of kapwa (shared humanity), bayanihan (community cooperation), and malasakit (compassionate care), Bahay Kalinga was created to help address housing instability, social isolation, economic hardship, and wellness challenges through a culturally grounded approach centered on community connection and prevention.
At a time when San Francisco continues to grapple with homelessness and affordability challenges, Bahay Kalinga represents a community-driven effort to help individuals and families access resources, support systems, and opportunities before they reach a point of crisis.
"The same culture that has produced generations of nurses, caregivers, healthcare workers, and community advocates is now applying those values to homelessness prevention and community well-being," said Jose Pecho, President of FCDC. "Bahay Kalinga reflects our belief that communities can play a meaningful role in helping people stay connected, supported, and housed."
The project has been years in the making and reflects the vision of FCDC Founding Director Lorenzo Listana, community volunteers, nonprofit partners, and supporters who believe cultural communities can be part of the solution to some of San Francisco's most pressing challenges.
Bahay Kalinga will serve as a community resource and stabilization center focused on:
• Homelessness prevention and housing stability
• Community resource navigation and referrals
• Wellness and supportive services connections
• Workforce and economic opportunity programs
• Community education and outreach
• Neighborhood collaboration and partnership development
Guests attending the Grand Opening will have the opportunity to tour the facility, meet community partners, and learn more about the programs and services being developed through Bahay Kalinga.
