8 Filipinos Get Chevening Scholarships in UK

Eight Filipinos have been awarded scholarships to pursue a master's degree in world-class universities in the United Kingdom through the prestigious Chevening Scholarship program, reports GMA News. The eight will pursue studies in healthcare, Islamic finance, environment, socio-economic development, law and information and cyber security.

Fil-Canadian Drowns While Rescuing Boy

Filipino Canadian Michael Lumahang, 39,  drowned while trying to help rescue a 12-year-old boy, Laurent Peralta, from the Ottawa River in Canada on Saturday, August 23, reports Inquirer.net. Lumahang was trying to help rescue  the son of a neighbor, when he was swept up in the strong current of the Ottawa River near the Champlain Bridge.

Filipina Falls to Death in Abu Dhabi

A Filipino woman died after falling from the 13th floor of a building in Abu Dhabi on September 5, Gulf News has learned. The woman apparently fell off the Eldorado Cinema building at around 10:30 a.m. on Friday," a police source said. The building is located on Shaikh Zayed the Second Street, popularly known as the Electra Street.

PH Economy Climbs Up 7 Places in World Competitiveness

The Philippines continued to improve its competitiveness on the global stage, reports Inquirer.net.  The World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Global Competitiveness Report for 2014 to 2015 showed the Philippines climbed seven places to 52nd out of 140 countries. Since 2010, the country has climbed 33 spots, making it among the biggest gainers among the nations surveyed.
