Pinoy Wins Gold in Spain Bodybuilding Contest

A Kuwait-based Filipino bodybuilder won gold at the most prestigious bodybuilding competition in the world held recently in Madrid, Spain, reports ABS-CBN News. Ariel Guong won the gold in the 75 kilos below category of the 2013 Arnold Classic. The event is headed by former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenneger.

President Benigno Aquino III will honor Rep. Jasmine Bacurnay-Lee of the South Korean National Assembly when he visits the country, reports GMA News. Bacurnay-Lee, a Filipina TV host and actress, became the first naturalized Korean citizen to win a seat in the National Assembly.

Bohol Quake Deaths Now 175

Deaths from the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that hit parts of Central Visayas and Mindanao rose to 175, reports Inquirer.net. The National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council's latest bulletin stated that 162 bodies have been recovered in Bohol, 12 in Cebu and one in Siquijor.

HONG KONG--A plan by two Hong Kong lawmakers to stop Philippine maids from working here has drawn harsh criticism, reports Hong Kong's The Standard. No political party is willing to second the pair's motion to ban Filipinos from Hong Kong - and even relatives of the Manila hostage victims have rejected the idea. The threat was made yesterday after Philippine President Benigno Aquino refused to apologize for the 2010 Manila tragedy in which eight Hong Kong residents were killed in tourist bus hijacking by an embittered ex-cop.
