MMR Vaccination before International Travel for Healthy Lunar New Year Celebrations

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is sharing the following resources to help promote measles vaccination ahead of Lunar New Year travel. We hope you can help spread this message and share available resources with your viewers and listeners.

Lunar New Year is in mid-February, and many families will be traveling overseas to celebrate with loved ones. CDPH encourages families get the MMR vaccine now, ideally 2 weeks before their international travel:

  • Infants 6 – 11 months of age should receive one dose of MMR vaccine before travel.

  • Children 12 months+ should receive two doses of MMR vaccine at least 28 days apart.

  • Teenagers and adults who do not have proof of immunity against measles should get two doses of MMR vaccine at least 28 days apart.

Families can check their vaccination status at CA Digital Vaccine Record (DVR) and visit MyTurn.ca.gov to make a vaccine appointment, if needed. Families should also talk to their doctor about other vaccines before traveling, such as influenza, COVID-19, and RSV.
