Balancing Act
/I hope your 2014 has been wonderful so far. Thank you so much for all your encouraging letters on our first anniversary. You can bet your good wishes are sincerely appreciated and your suggestions are our guides in making Positively Filipino better.
Perhaps the greatest challenge—and thrill—of putting out a publication such as Positively Filipino, which has a broad and diverse target readership, is second-guessing what stories will catch your attention and make you read beyond the headlines. It's really a touch-and-go game that will always have hits and misses. What's good for one reader may be super-boring for another. Factors such as geographic location, age, personal background, time and inclination (such as the willingness to read) always come into the picture.
And then there's the "logistics" issue. We may think of the most eye-catching, heart-rending topics that can set readers' hearts and minds on fire, but is there a writer who can do it?
Running a publication—much like life itself—is a constant balancing act. It's unpredictable and risky; there's a 50-50 chance of either a triumph or a failure, and the fulcrum keeps moving from week to week. Sometimes we come out with winners, many times we've had duds. But there's one constant that we abide by: Every story posted should always be worthy of your attention. Here's hoping you will always be there to help us keep our balance.
