/Book Review: Look Younger When You're Older by Loida Nicolas Lewis
USA Edition: Storehouse Voices (Penguin Random House, 2026)
Philippine Edition: Anvil Publishing, 2025
I was wishing for a straightforward solution to an age-old problem: ageless youth and beauty without spending a fortune, one that fits into my day-to-day routine. More importantly, I wanted something that works.
I found the answer in the book Look Younger When You're Older by Loida Nicolas Lewis—author, attorney, businesswoman, philanthropist, host of The Loida Lewis Podcast, and a popular member of the Filipino American community. Ms. Lewis is also known as the widow of Reginald F. Lewis, the first African American to build a billion-dollar company.
Loida's new self-help book speaks to Filipinos and to readers familiar with how Filipino seniors live their lives.
In a phone conversation, the charming Ms. Lewis told me all about her newest book, a follow-up to her successful memoir Why Should Guys Have All the Fun?, which was on the Amazon bestseller list for eight weeks. She sent me a copy of the new Philippine paperback edition. She also told me there would be a U.S. hardcover edition later this year with an additional chapter.
The 145-page book approaches staying young in a holistic way. It is divided into more than 15 chapters, organized into three major sections that suggest different ways to maintain an ageless routine and way of life: My Face, My Body, and My Spirit.
The advice covers everything from how daily stress, overeating, sleep deprivation, and bad habits can affect your physical appearance, emotional stability, overall looks, and even how you relate to others.
This is the book for anyone who wants a clearer understanding of what the body and soul need. It offers a practical plan for improving oneself overall.

The paragraphs are easy to read and follow. There is no technical jargon. The book includes illustrations that help readers visualize the suggested solutions. There are also the author's personal photographs that remind us of her life experiences. I read the book in one day, but I know I will reread it and continue referring to Ms. Lewis' advice as I go about my daily routines. I especially like the way the author combines science and common sense with real, everyday habits that we can all identify with.
For instance:
"Too much exposure to the sun causes wrinkles. I limit my facial exposure to the sun to a maximum of 10 minutes. I do sunbathe before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m., but only for 10 minutes."
On weight, she writes:
"I started to eat with intention. I write down what I eat and drink every day. I weigh myself every day, at the same time."
Basically, Ms. Lewis says you don't have to rely on quick fixes, unrealistic promises, or expensive products and procedures. You only need yourself and the right attitude.
Her suggestions are sensible: good nutrition from within, a strong faith, natural beauty tips, maintaining a healthy weight, and emotional wellness nurtured through friendships and family members who genuinely care for you.
Her close circle of friends also offers valuable beauty tips and recommends products they personally use.
Even media personalities generously praised Ms. Lewis' newest book.
"This book is a testament to living well from the inside out. Loida is living proof that aging gracefully and naturally is not only possible, but powerful," said Karen Davila, broadcast journalist and advocate.
"Bravo, Loida! Salamat for all that you are and all that you do to make this world a better place," said Dr. Boy Abunda, the Philippines' "King of Talk."
Readers will find informative, helpful, and thought-provoking lessons on mindfulness. The suggested strategies feel achievable. There are no complicated steps to follow. They are practical and do not overwhelm. They are doable no matter where you live in the world.
What stands out is the book's natural approach to wellness, without resorting to expensive products or costly Botox or surgical procedures. The emphasis is on mindful habits and self-care. Ms. Lewis reminds readers that the essence of staying youthful begins with loving yourself enough to take care of yourself.

Clearly, there was no need for me to buy expensive anti-aging creams at exorbitant prices. I had Ms. Lewis' book. I was drawn to this guidebook because it integrates internal well-being with external care. Ultimately, this self-help and self-care book by Loida Nicolas Lewis is an encouraging read for anyone seeking to stay youthful for the long haul.
