What do the stars say is in store for 2020? Astrology is akin to a weather forecast of sunny, cloudy or rainy energies; it will be up to you if you want to bring an umbrella. If you don’t like change, you won’t like what’s coming. But if you’re tired of the way things have been going, then be the change you want to see!

Here’s a useful tip to get forecasts that are more in-tune with your Zodiac sign: If you know your birth time, consult with an astrologer or go online to have your Rising sign (also known as Ascendant sign) computed.

The horoscope forecasts you can read online or in print, whether daily or especially prepared to lay out the entire year, will be more useful to you if you read for your Rising sign instead of reading for your Sun sign.

We all have a Zodiac sign, or more specifically a Sun sign, which is where the Sun was in our astrological chart on the day we were born. But we also have a Moon sign, Venus sign, Rising sign, etc. The Rising sign is computed based on the time we were born.

For example, if you are a Capricorn Sun sign but have a Scorpio Rising sign, read the forecast for Scorpio. Your existential concerns about health, prospects in education or career, business or investment risks, and, of course, the most important human concern of all -- your messy (or lack of a) love life, will be slightly more accurate.

Financial revolutions

In the meantime, here are a few notes for all signs in general.

Uranus (innovation, surprises, rebellion) entered Taurus (money, real estate, food production, security) in 2018 and will be there for many more years to come. Uranus wants to innovate (instability) the areas that Taurus rules over, although Taurus is a bit slow to change (stability), so expect some clashes to occur.

If you’ve noticed, the way the world approaches money, such as earning and transacting it, has been changing rapidly. People can now transact finances through their cellphones. And if it sounds quaint, just think about it -- this is a system that was not possible only so many years ago.

Day by day, cyrptocurrencies such as bitcoin and Facebook’s Libra are making strides behind closed doors among larger and larger numbers of people. See how the other systems ruled by Taurus may have been shifting. Example, food box subscription services and the resurgence of substitute meats are two food-based systems that are innovating, rebelling against the norm.

Lunar eclipses symbolize endings (for example, resigning from a job or ending a lease); solar eclipses usher in new beginnings (for example, parenthood or a promotion).

Institutional changes

Taurus is an earth sign: practical, foundational, institutional, systematic, formulaic. Another earth sign that will be highlighted in 2020 is Capricorn, which rules governments/authority, class/status, boundaries, older generations, buildings/structures, materialism/greed, rigidity.

A series of planets will be conjuncting (passing close to each other, as viewed from here on Earth) in Capricorn, metaphorically adding their energies to the areas that Capricorn rules over.

Pluto (transformation, “unseen,” secrets) entered Capricorn (banking, old institutions) in 2008, kicking off global financial crisis. In 2020, Jupiter (expansion, justice) meets up with Pluto. What could this pairing bring about? Will the mistakes become worse (expansion) finally be corrected (justice)? Is there a way we can change (Pluto) systems of wealth (Capricorn) into something more equitable (Jupiter)?

Perhaps the clue to answering this question lies with Saturn (conservation, restriction, pressure, drudgery, responsibility heavy lifting, putting in the work, perseverance) when it meets up with Pluto. What do hard work (Saturn) and change (Pluto) usually result in?

Preparing for shifts

On a larger scale, astrologers say the themes could be as big as changes to how power is distributed and how “unseen (to the naked eye)” subjects such as genetics and other sciences could be understood.

As both Jupiter and Saturn catch up to Pluto, they will also both conjunct with each other, and this is the big deal event that most astrologers are excited about. They’ll meet up at the end of 2020, in December, in the freedom-loving, equality-loving, big idea-loving sign of Aquarius. Responsibility and hard work (Saturn) and justice (Jupiter) transform (Pluto) old ways/institutions (Capricorn) with new big ideas (Aquarius). Restructuring!

Revelations, actions

On more a more personal level, everyone should be aware of this year’s set of eclipses, most of which fall in Cancer and Capricorn (continuing a series that began last year). While not everyone will be affected to the same degree, it’s the theme of the lessons for this year.

Eclipses, in general, are revelations of information or news that can propel some actions and decisions to be made sooner than expected. Lunar eclipses symbolize endings (for example, resigning from a job or ending a lease); solar eclipses usher in new beginnings (for example, parenthood or a promotion).

Cancer (home, security, nurturing) and Capricorn (public persona, career, ambition) are polar opposites of similar concerns in life. If we do not feel safe and secure, can we go out into the world and establish a productive, civic career? If we do not have a productive work life, would we be able to maintain a comfortable home? What do we need more of? What needs scaling back? Reevaluate and check work contracts and rent/lease agreements.

In a larger context, Cancer is nation, national security and xenophobia while Capricorn is government, old institutions and authoritarianism. What (more) do you think could be revealed that will usher in endings, beginnings and possible changes?

Some of the eclipses will be in Gemini (communications, transportation, trickery) and Sagittarius (education, justice, excess). A lot of (Jupiter) media, words and stories (Gemini) to fool (Gemini) the public or to help uphold justice (Jupiter)? Words can manipulate but words can also protect. Let’s see where they fall.

Slowing down, rethinking things

For the rest of the year, keep an eye out on the three Mercury retrograde periods, the thrice-a-year speed bumps of astrology that remind us to take stock of our lives. Slow down, reassess, rethink, reevaluate, regroup, rejuvenate. This year, they fall in February to early March, middle of June to early July and middle of October to early November.

There will also be a Venus retrograde this year from May 13 to June 25. No major aesthetic procedures and, if the ex calls you, do not answer the phone!

For more in-depth information on how the upcoming planetary transits could affect your personal chart, if you are so inclined, it’s best to consult an astrologer.
