HAZLETON, Pennsylvania – A Filipino professor’s brainchild, a web-based Global Outreach Project, is driving the Global Anti-Bullying Campaign students at the Academy of Sciences here launched last March 24, 2016.

Myrene Magabo, a Filipina who currently teaches Effective Speech Communication for Penn State University’s dual enrollment program with the Academy of Sciences, conceptualized the project. More in Inquirer.net.

MONTEREY, Calif. —A former Naval Postgraduate School professor pleaded guilty Wednesday to murdering his wife in Monterey and dismembering her body. Lawrence Jones will be sentenced to serve 50 years to life in state prison for the 2012 murder, prosecutors said.

Lawrence Jones, 74, was an NPS professor on sabbatical when his 29-year-old wife, Norife Herrera Jones, was found dead in Aromas. More in KSBW.com.

Filipina Not Guilty of Kidnapping Own Daughter

NAPA, California — A Filipina mother charged with child abduction and kidnapping her own daughter in Napa County, California had her hope for a better life revived when a 12-person jury found her not guilty of all the charges.

Makati resident Anna Nepomuceno looked greatly relieved and teary-eyed as she turned to her lawyer, Stacy Barrett, after the verdict was announced, then hugged her family and supporters and thanked them profusely. More in Inquirer.net.

Fil-Austrian Boy Wins 'The Voice Kids Germany'

A 13-year-old Filipino-Austrian boy Lukas Janisch was named "The Voice Kids Germany" winner for 2016. He Adele's "When We Were Young" while playing the piano for his final song during the show's finale. All three coaches, as well as the audience, gave him a standing ovation for his performance, reports ABS-CBN News.

AUSTIN, Texas -- Jason Day made his return to No. 1 in the world feel even sweeter Sunday by winning the Dell Match Play.

Day outlasted Rory McIlroy in an epic battle in the morning semifinals by making a 12-foot par putt on the 18th hole. The championship match against Louis Oosthuizen turned into a victory lap at Austin Country Club. More on ESPN.com.

Filipino American Assumes Leading Role in Clinton Campaign

Jason Tengco, who served as deputy director of the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI), is now the Clinton campaign's AAPI outreach director, replacing Lisa Changadveja who took a position with the Democractic Party in Colorado. Tengco was part of the White House Office of Public Engagement and managed the first-ever White House Summit on AAPIs. He has also worked for the Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance and was an Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies fellow for U.S. Rep. Mike Honda (D-CA). More from NBCNews.com.

PH Launches Satellite From Cape Canaveral

The Philippines sent a third satellite, Diwata, into space taking the Filipino scientific community to new heights. Diwata, the first Filipino-made and codeveloped microsatellite, officially called the Philippine Scientific Earth Observation Microsatellite (Phil-Microsat), was sent off from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida, reports Inquirer.net.

US-PH Agree on 5 Sites for Military Bases

The Philippines and United States have finally agreed where the Americans can build facilities under the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement which was affirmed by the Supreme Court last January. The bases are the Antonio Bautista Air Base in Puerto Princesa City, the Basa Air Base in Floridablanca, Pampanga, Fort Magsaysay in Nueva Ecija, Lumbia Air Base in Cagayan de Oro and the Mactan-Benito Ebuen Air Base in Cebu, reports TheStandard.com.
