Public Satisfaction with Pres. Aquino Fell This Quarter

A Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey revealed that public satisfaction with the performance of President Aquino fell this quarter. The survey showed Aquino received a net satisfaction rating of +32, which is nine points below his score of +41 in September. But both scores are classified as "good," report ABS-CBN News.

Remittances in October Hit $2.23 Billion, 2nd Highest Monthly Total

Filipinos abroad sent back home cash worth $2.23 billion in October—the second highest monthly amount thus far, exceeded only by the $2.32 billion recorded in December last year. Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) data showed that cash remittances coursed through banks at the start of the fourth quarter exceeded by 0.2 percent the $2.23 billion that came in a year, reports Inquirer.net.



 

Most Filipino Kids Glued to Teleseryes--Study

A recent study shows most Filipino children still prefer watching television when they get home after a long day of school, and they like watching teleseryes (television series) or adult-oriented shows. Most Filipino children watch television for close to 3 hours during weekdays, and 6 hours during weekends, the same study showed. Both are beyond the internationally prescribed daily exposure to television which is only 1 to 2 hours, reports Rappler.com.

Donaire beats Juarez, wins WBO Super Bantamweight Title

Nonito Donaire reclaimed the WBO super bantamweight belt after outpointing Cesar Juarez of Mexico Saturday (Manila time) in one of the best fights of the year at Roberto Clemente Colesium in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Donaire, 33, won back the crown he once lost to Guillermo Rigondeaux two years ago after the undefeated Cuban was stripped off his belts due to inactivity, but not after having to survive a gritty Juarez in the latter part of the fight. More in Inquirer.net.

PH Unemployment Dipped in October

The number of Filipinos without jobs as well as those looking for longer working hours both eased in October, the government reported on December 10. Preliminary estimates of the Philippine Statistics Authority’s (PSA) October 2015 Labor Force Survey showed that the employment rate slightly improved to 94.4 percent in October from 94 percent a year ago, reports Inquirer.net.

'Heneral Luna' Sets Sights on a Golden Globe Win

Filipino independent film “Heneral Luna” is gunning for a win in the foreign language film category in the 73rd Golden Globe Awards.

Directed by Jerrold Tarog, Heneral Luna is one of the 71 entries from 46 countries vying for the award.

Five nominees will then be announced on December 10 and the winner will be announced during the awards ceremony on January 10, 2016. Reported from Inquirer.net.

Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte topped a nationwide survey that Social Weather Stations (SWS) conducted in the last week of November, emerging as the No. 1 choice of voters not only from all socioeconomic classes but also from all geographic areas.

Nationwide, Duterte was the choice of 38 percent of voters, giving him a double-digit lead over Sen. Grace Poe and Vice President Jejomar Binay, who each got 21 percent. Former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas received 15 percent and Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago got 4 percent. Only 1 percent of the voters were undecided. More in Inquirer.net.
