A homeless Filipino boy has been overwhelmed with aid after a photograph of him studying on the pavement using faint light from a McDonald's outlet went viral on the internet, reports the TelegraphUK. Nine-year-old Daniel Cabrera will now be able to fulfill his dream of becoming a policeman after donations of cash, school supplies and a college scholarship poured in, his mother, Christina Espinosa, said.

Thirty-four years ago, Mel “Red” Recana was appointed by then California Gov. Jerry Brown to the Los Angeles Superior Court. On July 16, Brown, who was reelected governor in 2011, appointed Recana’s son, Julian, to the LA Superior Court, making the Recanas the first Fil-Am father and son to serve in the California judiciary, reports Inquirer.net.

Germany Recruiting More Filipino Nurses

Filipino nurses are needed in Germany. The German Federal Employment Agency is recruiting 70 Filipino nurses with two years’ experience in geriatric care and nursing home, according to the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA). Qualified applicants will have to undergo at least a six-month course in the German language, reports ABS-CBN News.
