PAL Listed Among World's Most Reliable Airlines

Philippine Airlines, the nation’s flag carrier, was listed among the world’s most reliable airlines. In a study made by travel website WanderBat, PAL ranked 21st out of 22 most reliable airlines, reports Inquirer.net.

Filipina 'Virtual' Slave Wins $55K in Canada Human Rights Case

The Filipino nanny employed by the family "was a virtual slave," tribunal member Catherine McCreary wrote in her decision to award "PN," a mother of two,  $55,000 in damages. PN iwas hired as a caregiver for the two children of a couple who brought her to Canada in July 2013. The husband sexually assaulted her and the wife humiliated and abused her in the hotel suite where they stayed while looking for a house. Even the children made fun of her, reports CBCNews.

Filipina, Son Could Be Deported from Australia Because He Has Autism

A Filipina, Maria Sevilla, and her son, Tyrone, could be deported  to the Philippines because the young boy has an autism diagnosis. The two immigrated to Queensland in 2007.  Her skilled working visa was recently rejected by Australia's Immigration Department, because the 10-year-old boy "may be a burden on the taxpayer if he becomes a citizen later in life," reports ParentDish.

 

 

PH Employers Still Prefer to Hire from Top Schools

Most employers still look at fresh graduates' alma mater in choosing new hires, with a majority of them favoring those from top schools, although they are not discounting graduates from other colleges and universities. Over three-fourths, or 77%, of the 400 top employers in the country admitted that they still favor those from the following schools: University of the Philippines (UP); University of Santo Tomas (UST); De La Salle University (DLSU); Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU), reports Rappler.com.

Filipino nurse Ed Mundsel Bello Ello, who allegedly made anti-Singaporean comments on Facebook, was charged on April 7 with sedition and giving false information to the police. Ello was sacked by Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), allegedly said Singaporeans are “loosers” (sic) and vowed to “evict” them from their country and prayed that “disators” (disasters) strike Singapore and then he would celebrate. He ended by saying that “Pinoy better and stronger than Stinkaporeans” in his Jan. 2 post, reports Inquirer.net.

The Philippines is no longer the "sick man of Asia" after the economy grew a better-than-estimated 6.9 percent last quarter from a year earlier.
