Known simply as “Rose,” she is mobbed by fans wherever she goes.

Start of PH School Year May Change to Sept.

President Benigno Aquino is open to moving the start of the Philippines' school year to September instead of June, reports Inquirer.net. Communications Secretary Herminio “Sonny” Coloma, Jr. said over state-run dzRB that the proposal was in line with the Asean (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Integration in 2015.

Firecracker Victim Is PH's First Child Kidney Donor

John Kenneth Deñega, a 12-year-old boy killed by firecracker blast, became the first pediatric kidney donor in the country, reports Interaksyon.com.  Deñega's parents donated the boy's kidneys to a 64-year-old male radio commentator, a diabetic, who is suffering from end-stage renal disease. 

Measles Outbreak in Metro Manila Region

Measles, a vaccine-preventable disease, which should have been eliminated years ago, has infected hundreds of children in the country, causing an outbreak in at least nine cities in the National Capital Region,  reports Interaksyon.com.

PH Suspends Three Recruitment Firms

The Philippine government suspended three recruitment firms for allegedly illegally deploying Filipino workers to Jordan through Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), reports GMA News. Suspended were Empleos Incorporated, Nahed International Manpower Services and Ridzkey Human Resources International Services, according to the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).

US Deported 369,000 Immigrants in 2013

The US government deported about 369,000 immigrants, including a number of Filipinos, during fiscal year 2013, according to new statistics from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) released last month, reports Inquirer.net. It shows a 10 percent drop from the previous year — the first since President Barack Obama took office in 2008.

Singapore Court OKs Turnover of Marcos Loot

Singapore’s top court recognized the right of the Philippine National Bank (PNB) to hold in trust the $23 million seized from the estate of the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos, reports Inquirer.net.
