PH Among Top 5 Nations in Decreasing Gender Gap

The Philippines was better able to address inequalities between men and women in 2013 than the year before, reports Rappler.com. This is according to the 2013 Global Gender Gap Report, which ranks the Philippines 5th out of 136 countries in terms of progress in closing the male-female gender gap in economics, politics, education and health.

 

Earnings from Outsourcing to Top OFW Remittances

Earnings of the business process outsourcing (BPO) sector are expected to overtake the amount of money sent home by overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the next five years, reports Interaksyon.com. BPO revenues are around $16 billion dollars while remittances are about $24 billion, but eventually BPO revenues will overtake remittances, according to the Monetary Board.

1,500 Pinoys in Saudi Still Awaiting Repatriation

More than 1,500 undocumented Filipinos in Saudi Arabia are still awaiting repatriation, two weeks before the Kingdom is set to resume its crackdown on illegal foreign workers, reports Interaksyon.com. A total of 4,111 Filipinos have been repatriated by the Philippine government, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Monday.

 

Movie "Ilo Ilo" Wins UK Film Fest Award

LONDON - The film, "Ilo Ilo," based on the relationship of a Singaporean boy and her Filipina nanny, won top prize for the best first feature film competition at the British Film Institute’s (BFI) London Film Festival 2013, reports  ABS-CBN News.  The film won The Sutherland Award, and has been gathering momentum in the past few months, gaining positive feedback from Toronto to Cannes.

 

HK Pinoys' Month-Long Relief Drive for Quake Victims

Internet Penetration Rate in PH Now 36 Percent

Internet access in the Philippines now covers over a third of the country’s population. The National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) said that rising economic activities led to an increase in demand for easily available information, reports Inquirer.net. Internet penetration rate in the Philippines rose to 36 percent last year from only 2 percent in 2000.

PH Officially Asks US to Freeze Napoles Assets

The Philippines has formally asked the United States to freeze the US assets of alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim-Napoles, saying that the assets if proven to have been illegally obtained rightfully belongs to the Philippine government, reports Inquirer.net.
