Moody's Ups PH Rating to Investment Grade

Moody's Investors Service on Thursday became the third major credit rating agency to upgrade the Philippines to investment grade, citing its robust economy, political stability and improved governance, reports the Associated Press/YahooNews. Moody's said it raised the rating by one notch to Baa3 from Ba1. It also assigned a positive outlook to the rating, which means there's a possibility of it being upgraded again in the future.

Obama Cancels Trip to Philippines

The White House announced on Wednesday that President Obama had canceled his trip next week to the Philippines and Malaysia because of the budget standoff in Washington, reports the New York Times. Secretary of State John Kerry will lead delegations to both countries, instead of  Obama.

Filipino Pilgrim Dies on Way to Mecca

A Filipino pilgrim on his way to Mecca in Saudi Arabia for the annual Hajj pilgrimage died before reaching his destination, reports GMANews.tv. Syamsul Alam Muhtar, 69, died of a heart attack while still in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates last September 16. He was among the estimated 8,000 Filipinos who will take part in this year's Hajj pilgrimage.

Domestic Worker Jumps Off Building to Escape

Jeddah--A female Filipino domestic worker here was badly hurt Tuesday afternoon after she and a companion tried to escape their allegedly abusive employer by jumping off a building, reports GMANews.tv.
