Dozens of Filipino Nurses Face UK Budget Cuts

Dozens of Filipino nurses are among hundreds of people protesting against budget cuts at the largest health trust in the UK, amid plans to cut salaries and revise local services affecting six hospitals in east London, reports ABS-CBN News.

No More Walk-In Passport Applicants Allowed

Starting October 1, the Philippine consulate in Dubai  will no longer accommodate walk-in passport applicants before 10 a.m. on weekends, reports Manila Standard Today. The rules is  intended to reduce the volume of people coming to the consulate. Vice Consul Geronimo Suliguin said   250 passport applicants with appointments turn out at the consulate daily. About half of this number are walk-ins.

Published by Lampara Publishing House, Inc., and translated by Becky Bravo, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone: The Filipino Edition” was released last Sept. 14 at the Manila International Bookfair (MIBF), reports Inqu irer.net.

 

PH Assumes Chair of UN Commission on Women

 Philippine Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN Libran Cabactulan formally assumed the chairmanship of the United Nations' Bureau for the 58th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women, apparently the international community's recognition of the Philippines' leadership in this field, reports GMANews.tv.

 

UK-PH Trade Expected to Double

The UK Minister of State for Trade and Investment expects bilateral trade between the Philippines and the United Kingdom to double within the next five years, reports Inquirer.net.  Lord Stephen Green of Hurstpierpoint said that this could be achieved by exchanges of trade missions.

Filipina Household Worker Gets Norwegian Medal

A Filipina household staff member at the Norwegian Ambassador's residence in Berne, Switzerland was given royal recognition for rendering thirty years of loyal service, reports Philstar.com. Alice Javier was given The Norwegian King's Commemorative Medal, a decoration given to personnel who work at Norwegian missions and residences in recognition for special services.

 

First Filipino Coronavirus Death in Saudi Reported
