Thousands of OFWs Corrected Their Status in Saudi

Philippine ambassador to Saudi Arabia Ezzedin Tago said over 20,000 Filipino nationals have corrected their residency status during the grace period, reports Arab NewsHe called on OFWs who needed correction to benefit from the remaining days of the amnesty period, which will end in less than two months.

The first batch of fresh Philippine bananas has finally arrived in the United States, according to the Philippine Embassy in the US, reports Inquirer.net . A shipment of 7.047 metric tons of highland cavendish from Bukidnon arrived September 9 in California, making the Philippines the first Asian country to export bananas to the US.

Foreign interest in Filipino cuisine increase continues to rise. After the US lifestyle magazine Details declared Filipino cuisine the “next great Asian food trend” in its September issue, the influential restaurant guide Zagat included Pinoy food on its list of the ten “most exciting emerging cuisines” in the United States, reports ABS-CBN News.

 

Obama To Visit PH in October

President Barack Obama is scheduled to make a historic visit to the Philippines next month as part of the US pivot toward Asia, reports the Manila Bulletin. The White House confirmed that Obama will visit the Philippines  in the last leg of his four-nation jaunt to Asia to meet with President Benigno Aquino III to reaffirm the strong economic, people-to-people, and security links between the two countries.

 

Filipino Martyr to Be Beatified in October

The Vatican has announced that Franciscan Capuchin priest Eugenio Sanz-Orozco, also known as Jose Maria de Manila, will be beatified this year in Tarragona, Spain, on October13, reports UCA News. Orozco was born in Manila of Spanish parents on September 5, 1880. He was the son of Don Eugenio Sanz-Orozco, the last Spanish mayor of Manila, and Doña Feliza Mortera y Camacho.
