Vicky Tauli-Corpuz, an Igorot from the Kankana-ey tribe in Besao, Mountain Province, has been chosen as the United Nations' Special Rapporteur on the rights of indigenous people, the first woman and indigenous Filipina to assume the position. 

As a special rapporteur, Corpuz will monitor the human rights situations of various indigenous peoples (IP) worldwide, report to governments the violations of their rights, and establish good practices on indigenous rights protection. From Rappler.com.
