The number of jobless Filipinos declined to 3.7 million in 2021 from the 15-year-high of 4.5 million unemployed the year before, which was the height of the longest and most stringent COVID-19 lockdowns. “POV,” the Emmy-winning PBS documentary series, has announced the acquisition of environmental thriller “Delikado” as part of its upcoming 35th season. Philippine National Women’s Football Team
The Philippine National Women’s Football team is in the semi-final of the Women’s Asian Cup and automatic qualifies for the 2023 Women’s World Cup. This is the first time a Philippines team of any gender at any age level will appear on the global stage (See The Guardian for story).
Jonathan Corpus Ong
After his noteworthy research on political troll farms and fake news production in the Philippines, Filipino disinformation researcher Jonathan Corpus Ong is embarking on a new study on the human cost of disinformation which affects civil society workers and journalists. He’s one of the 28 scholars selected from among 300 applicants nominated by their respective institutions. Ong was awarded a $200,000 stipend for the said endeavor (See ABS-CBN News for story).
The Philippines has pulled the plug on all domestic screenings of a Hollywood film called "Uncharted", over a scene showing a disputed map of the South China Sea, the Department of Foreign Affairs said. The move comes shortly after Vietnam, another claimant in the South China Sea, also banned the Sony Pictures action movie (See Yahoo News for story).
