Rozzana Verder-Aliga
Vallejo’s City Council on Tuesday, Jan. 11, elected Filipino American councilor Rozzana Verder-Aliga as vice mayor for a second term.
Verder-Aliga will serve as the city’s vice mayor again in 2022 after the city council voted in favor of her 5-1. She served as vice mayor from January to December 2021. She first served as vice mayor from January to December 2016 (See INQUIRER for story).
Nina Lee Aquino
Nina Lee Aquino, an award-winning Filipino Canadian director, dramaturge and teacher, has been named artistic director of English theatre at the National Arts Centre. Aquino will take the reins at NAC English Theatre on Aug. 29 (See INQUIRER.net for story).

Former Ateneo Lady Eagle badminton player Shawntel Nicole Martinez Nieto has made history as the first-ever Filipino recipient of the Diana Award, the most prestigious accolade given to young people in honor of the Princess of Wales for outstanding social work and humanitarian efforts (See Goodnewspilipinas for story).
Sofia Frank
The Philippines’ Sofia Frank has become the country’s first female qualifier to the 2022 World Junior Figure Skating Championships in eight years.
