PH Slips Down a Few Notches in Global Competitiveness

The Philippines slipped two notches to rank 56th on the Global Talent Competitiveness Index 2015-2016 (GTCI), which measures the talent flow and location attractiveness for workers of 109 countries that were assessed in the study, reports Inquirer.net.

More Than A Million Overseas Filipinos Registered to Vote

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) reports that 1,376,067 Filipino citizens worldwide are registered to vote in the May national election. The figure represents a big jump from the 2013 midterm election which only garnered 737,759 overseas Filipino voters (OFV). Of the current figure, 1,326,728 are land-based while 49,339 are seafarers.

Filipinos were found to be health-conscious at the end of 2015 with three out of five individuals citing staying healthy an urgent personal concern, according to a new Pulse Asia survey. Qatar Grants Clemency to 10 Filipinos

The government of Qatar has granted clemency to 10 incarcerated overseas Filipinos in light of the Qatar National Day, the Philippine Embassy in Doha reported on January 7. Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani extended clemency to nine men and a woman from the Philippines. He usually issues pardons twice a year, one during the national day, and the other during the holy month of Ramadan, reports ABS-CBN News.
