Filipino food trucks, cultural performances, and lots of faithful Filipino fans were all part of the Pinoy invasion of Oracle Arena when the Golden State Warriors celebrated the annual Filipino Heritage Night as they defeated the Brooklyn Nets in overtime win.

Chris Crisostomo, a Filipino-American karate teacher from Diamond Bar, California, recently bested martial arts athletes worldwide by winning five medals for Team USA.

Held in Benidorm, Spain, the WKA WTKA World Unified Championships on November 5 to 8 brought together 3,000 competitors from around the world. Chris won in five performance divisions: Traditional Weapon (gold), Musical Weapon (gold), Musical Form (gold), Creative Form (gold) and Creative Weapon (silver). More in Rappler.com

Until this week, Aisa Mijeno was yet another entrepreneur struggling to raise money for her startup in the Philippines. Then she got a call from the White House.

Now the 31-year-old engineer is getting global attention after President Barack Obama offered to play matchmaker for her company, which builds lamps that run on seawater. Mijeno, the co-founder of SALt, shared a stage Wednesday with Obama and Alibaba Group Holding Ltd.’s Jack Ma at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Manila. More in Bloomberg.com.

Manila, Cebu Among Least Livable Cities in APEC Region--Study

The Metropolises of Manila and Cebu ranked low in terms of livability against 26 other cities among the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) member economies, especially in the areas of connectivity, environmental sustainability and health and welfare. The Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC) study, “Building Better Cities,” showed Manila ranking 22nd and Cebu 26th among the 28 APEC cities surveyed, reports Inquirer.net.

14 OFWs Killed, Several Injured in Saudi Collision

At least 14 overseas Filipino overseas workers were killed and scores were injured on Nov. 16 when the coaster van they were riding collided with a delivery truck in Saudi Arabia, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs. Philippine embassy in Riyadh had received a sketchy information about the accident, reports Inquirer.net.

Filipino Overseas Voter Registration Breaks 1.4M Mark

The number of active registered overseas voters for the 2016 national elections has surpassed the 1.4 million mark, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said. The DFA- Overseas Voting Secretariat said 1,400,767 overseas Filipinos are now active voters following the recently concluded 2014-2015 overseas voting registration/certification period last October 31, reports ABS-CBN News.

An anonymous member of Manila’s billionaire boys club has just pulled off another coup—by winning two historic Filipino masterpieces in a European auction and bringing them back to their rightful home in the Philippines.

For weeks, the small circle of heavy hitters, who obsess more about early 19th century art than others do over a BenCab, were sleepless over the arrival of a pair of previously unknown and extremely rare works, both titled “Retrato de la familia Azcárraga” (“Portrait of the Azcárraga Family”), on the Spanish market.

They are the work of Juan Arzeo, one of the foremost Filipino painters of the early 1800s, who practiced his art in the district of Fernando de Dilao (now Paco). More in Inquirer.net.
