Favorable Hague Tribunal Decision Seen On Philippines vs. China Case

The international tribunal hearing the Philippines’ case against China over disputed territory in the West Philippine Sea may have hinted of its eventual decision when it ignored China’s so-called nine-dash line, Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio said. 

On October 30, the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague ruled that it has jurisdiction over the case, handing Manila a victory in the first-round issue of admissibility.

The tribunal has scheduled the hearing on the merits of the case from November 24 to 30 and is expected to hand down its final decision by mid-2016. More on Interaksyon.com

More Filipinos Went Hungry in 3rd Quarter of 2015

More than three million families are estimated to be hungry in the third quarter of 2015. In a recent Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey, 15.7 percent of respondents had experienced involuntary hunger from July until September. The latest hunger rating is considered the highest mark for 2015 and is 3 points higher than the second quarter’s, reports Rappler.com.

OFW Remittances Drop for First Time in 12 Years

Money sent home by Filipinos working or living abroad through banks declined for the first time in over 12 years in August, reports GMA News. Cash remittances amounted to $2.04 billion or 0.6 percent lower than the $2.06 billion recorded during the same month in 2014, according to figures released by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).

A 24-year-old Filipina, Chelsea Ake-Salvacion, the manager of Rejuvenice in Henderson, Nevada, was found frozen to death inside a cryotherapy chamber at a clinic in Nevada last week.She was found dead by her co-workers in one of the salon's cryotherapy chambers, reports ABS-CBN News
