A European television series with two Filipino characters has won the Flemish version of the US Emmy Awards following cult success since its original run at the end of 2013, reports ABS-CBN News. "Eigen Kweek" is about a local farmer who tries to regain lost money by growing cannabis. It also features two Filipino characters, sisters Julita and Nenita Pineda from Caloocan City, who both ended up in Belgium is search of a better life.

 

Spain Nabs 20 Filipinos in Drug Ring

MADRID—Spanish police said that they had broken up two drug trafficking rings specializing in crystal meth, arresting 42 people, almost half of them Filipinos, reports Inquirer.net. Police seized eight kilos (17.6 pounds) of the highly addictive drug -- known as “ice” or “shabu”-- and 15,000 ($21,000) in cash in raids across Madrid, Barcelona and Murcia, the police said in a statement. Police arrested 20 Filipinos, 19 Spaniards and three Africans—one each from Mali, Senegal and Togo.

PH Immigration Re-Inspects Travelers to Some Countries

The Bureau of Immigration on denied reports of a stricter policy that requires Filipinos who want to travel abroad to show proof of their financial capability to do so, reports GMA News. Under the standing policy, the Bureau will allow Filipinos to leave the country as long as they can show travel documents including a passport, visa and a roundtrip ticket. However, travelers bound for countries that have a high incidence of human trafficking will be subject to a secondary assessment.

 

 

 

Pakistan Gives PH $1 Million for 'Yolanda'
