Filipino Nurses Working Abroad Outnumber Those in PH

Nurses who work overseas outnumber those who work in the Philippines four to one, reports Inquirer.netAt least 177,414 nurses are y employed overseas, according to figures from the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), while only 38,488 nurses are employed in the country, according to the National Database of Human Resources for Health Information System.

PH Economic Growth Excludes Jobs

Despite the series of calamities that struck last year, the Philippines registered a 9.56 percent growth in foreign arrivals in 2013, reports Inquirer.net. The Department of Tourism (DOT) stated  that  4,681,307 foreign visitors arrived last year, surpassing the 4,272,811 arrivals recorded in 2012 by 9.56 percent.

Tax on Smokers Will Pay for Poor's Health Insurance

The sin taxes of smokers this year will go partly to enrolling 40 million poor people in the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth), reports Interaksyon.com. "Their premium has been paid by the national government, by the people who smoke,” Health Undersecretary Teodoro Herbosa said.
