Journey Donates $350K to 'Yolanda' Relief

The band Journey is donating $350,000 to help relief efforts in the Philippines, and its lead singer has a message for his homeland: "Don't Stop Believin'," reports Yahoo News/AP. Arnel Pineda and the rest of the band announced the donation on Friday. It will go to the United Nations World Food Programme, which is providing Filipinos with food assistance. The donation should provide 1.4 million meals.

Saudi Prince Donates $100,000 to Yolanda Relief

Saudi Arabian Prince Talal Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud extended help to Filipinos who were affected by the super typhoon Yolanda that hit the Philippines last week, reposts ABS-CBN News.com. The Prince announced the donation of $100,000 or more than P4 million to the Philippines from the AGFUND or the Arab and Gulf Program for Development.

Israel, Jewish Groups Send Typhoon Relief to PH

Israeli military officials arrived in the Philippines to evaluate t how Israel can best assist in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan, reports The Jewish Daily Forward. Israel also plans to send additional doctors and other officers once it receives the go-ahead from the government. The Jewish Federations of North America, Union for Reform Judaism and American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee are collecting donations to help the survivors.

19 Filipina OFWs Locked Up in Dubai Villa

 

Three Indian men have been accused of confining 19 Filipinas, who worked for a hotel, inside a villa and not allowing them to go out during their free time or holidays, reports Gulf News. The Filipinas are reportedly locked up daily in the employees’ residence in Al Mutainah.

 

 

Pepsi Cola, Western Union Give $1M, $100K for Relief

Pepsi Cola and the Pepsi Cola Foundation just announced a $1 million grant to the Philippines to assist with relief  and rebuilding efforts. Western Union Company has donated $100,000 to the relief efforts in the Philippines. The funds were remitted to Save the Children.

Canada Prioritizes Applications of 'Yolanda' Victims

The immigration applications of Filipinos affected by super typhoon Yolanda (International name: Haiyan) will be prioritized by Canada, reports ABS-CBN News. According to Citizenship and Immigration (CIC) Minister Chris Alexander,  the processing of applications on request from Filipinos who have been "significantly and personally" affected by the typhoon will be a priority.

$301M Will Be Needed for Yolanda Rehab, Says UN

In light of the massive destruction left by Super Typhoon Yolanda, the United Nations (UN) and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) launched an action plan to help rehabilitate the affected provinces in the Philippines--$301 million will be needed to help 11.3 million persons, reports Rappler.com.
