Five Nabbed for Gang Rape of Pinay in Qatar

Five suspects have already been arrested in the gang rape of a Filipino woman in Doha, Qatar, a report on GMA News's “24 Oras” said Thursday. The five, all Indian nationals, were arrested following a joint entrapment operation by the Criminal Investigation Department of Qatar and the INTERPOL.

NGO Opens Hotline for Families of OFWs in Syria

 The Blas F. Ople Policy Center opened a hotline for families of Filipinos who want to be rescued from Syria, reports ABS-CBNnews.com. The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) raised crisis alert Level 4 in Egypt, signaling the mandatory evacuation of overseas Filipino workers  at Philippine government expense, reports Philstar.comThe marked deterioration of peace and order in Egypt makes working and living there increasingly difficult and dangerous the DFA said.

 

UK Embassy Clarifies--80% of PH Safe for Travel

MANILA--The United Kingdom's embassy said Tuesday that 80 percent of the Philippines is safe for British tourists, and their no-travel advise covers only several provinces in Mindanao because of on-going terrorist activity and clashes between the military and insurgent groups, reports Inquirer.net

 

PH Has Most Improved Business Climate--US Firms

The Philippines showed the greatest improvement in its business environment in  Southeast Asia in the last five years, according to a survey of US companies in the region, reports Philstar.com. The US Chamber of Commerce and the American Chambers of Commerce in the ASEAN surveyed 475 American firms in ten ASEAN countries from May 10 to June 10, and revealed that 39 US companies in the Philippines had the biggest increase in satisfaction over the local business climate from 2008 to 2013.
