U.P. Team Wins Google Global Ad Contest

For its innovative ad for a local cruise company, a team of business students from the University of the Philippines became the first team from Asia to be awarded a the global winner of Google's Online Marketing Challenge, reports GMAnews.tv. In an entry posted on its Google for Students blog, Google announced that the UP team under Professor James Ryan Jonas was the global winner for the contest's AdWords category.

Pacquiao Not Yet Finished--Tyson

Former world heavyweight champion “Iron” Mike Tyson says Manny Pacquiao, is not yet finished as a top-level boxer and a pay-per-view draw, reports ABS-CBNnews.com. “Well, Pacquiao is back. Because he fights Brandon Rios, and he sells the place out – he is back,” Tyson said. Pacquiao will take on Rios, a hard-hitting former world lightweight champion, this November in Macau. “When you’re not back is when you’re finished, and nobody wants to see your face no more,” Tyson explained. 

 

OFW Killed in Egypt

A female Filipino worker was  killed in Egypt on August 17, although it was not clear if her death was connected to the political upheaval currently gripping the African nation, reports GMANews.tv. Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) spokesman Raul Hernandez said her body “was found concealed in a large suitcase which was left around the dump site in Nasr City.”

 

Pinoy Dance Group Raises Funds on Vegas Sidewalk

LAS VEGAS--The dance group Philippine All Stars is trying to pay more than P2 million in debt in the Philippines by showing off its members' skills on the sidewalk in front of the Bally’s Hotel and Casino, reports ABS-CBNnews.com. They hope to raise funds to pay back P2.8 million in dues and to stay afloat for their expenses while in the US, after competing in the recent World Hip Hop International in Las Vegas.
