#BeAwesomeToSomebody

New York hairstylist Mark Bustos became a social media hit for offering free haircuts to the homeless on Sundays. According to today.com, he has been offering his services since his trip to the Philippines in May 2012, where he rented a barber's chair to serve underprivileged children. His free makeover gives his clients a smile and a new confidence, as they are treated better with their new looks.

Below are photos and Mark's comments from his instagram series #BeAwesomeToSomebody which was taken by Devin Masga. Reprinted with permission from Mark Bustos.

He told me is name is Ray. I asked if "King Ray" was ok with him.. Cleaned him up just in time before he visited his 11 year old daughter that night. (Photo by Devin Masga)

"Red" is one of the Bowery's originals. He's a veteran of war that enjoys telling jokes and talking to anybody that crosses his path. He wears 2 hearing aids due to impact noises from blasts and combat.  A neighborhood favorite for sure! (Photo by Devin Masga)

When I first approached Joe, 40, he was banging the back of his head against the wall. He told me he felt like a "dead corpse." After a supreme pizza and a haircut, but most of all, some words of encouragement from new friends, he no longer felt that way. (Photo by Devin Masga)

Ashley, 24, escaped an abusive relationship, which landed her on the streets for the past 2 months. She gathers just enough money throughout the day to sleep in a hostel at night. A haircut and a caramel frappuccino from Starbucks brightened up her day. (Photo by Devin Masga)
